Trigger warning: Diana's story includes some violent and abusive episodes from her childhood. You can skip forward to about 21:00 to avoid those descriptions.
Diana H had a turbulent childhood. Her mother suffered from mental illness. Her house was full of alcohol, drugs, and violence. We talk about how her work in recovery has helped her to a more serene, happy, and productive life. She wrote a book, titled Born into Crazy, and she reads an excerpt from the book for us.
Writing the book was part of her recovery from the traumas of her childhood. It helped her to face and to defuse the emotions in her memories, in combination with therapy and 12-step recovery.
