As we approach the US holiday of Thanksgiving, I naturally think about the things I am grateful for. What are you grateful for?
Here are some things I am grateful for
- That I have a program of recovery.
- Our dog is a sweetheart, so loving.
- That my adult children choose to spend time with me and share their life with me.
- Although it snowed Thursday evening, on Friday morning it was sunny and pretty.
- That, as a sponsee reminded me, I have a roof over my head, a furnace that works, and a warm blanket.
- That you share your experience, strength, and hope with me and with the other listeners of this podcast. You make the podcast better and stronger by your presence.
What are you grateful for? Call or email with one thing you are grateful for this year, this month, or just today. Or, if you wish, share a gratitude list with us. I will compile your responses into an episode to be published on the US Thanksgiving weekend (last weekend in November). Please send your contribution by November 25, 2017.

I read a bit from this Vox article about the Netflix show Jessica Jones, and its depiction of drug use and addiction.
Hi Spencer,
I am grateful that I have been remind by my higher power, to slow down.
Having PTSD from being on high alert as a child I did everything quickly so I wouldn’t get in trouble. I’ve continued in this fashion for all of my life and I’m now burnt out.
This morning I was reminded to slow down. I don’t have to hurry.
I’m grateful that this includes
Chewing slower and savouring my food.
And very grateful to you Spencer and this life affirming show.
Spencer, do you have a greyhound?
Yes, I do. He is a sweetheart.
Hi Spencer,
I recently discovered your podcast and have listened to many episodes over the last couple of weeks. It seems like there is something in each and every one that touches me in some way. Yesterday I was listening to Episode 224 on Gratitude while on my way to pick up my 16-year-old from school. When she hopped in the car, I asked her about her day.. then I asked her what she was grateful for today, and she said she is grateful for coffee.. definitely my daughter! Anyway, it led into a sweet conversation. I myself am also grateful for my family, my 3 dogs, my upcoming days off of work around Thanksgiving and the cooler weather that is a welcome reprieve from the Florida heat. While I have not yet attended AlAnon meetings, I participated in a family group for about a year at the Intensive Outpatient program where my husband received much needed help for his drinking. They were very kind in that they allowed family members to keep coming even after their loved one graduated from the program. I am also an adult child, It has been a long road getting here. Thank you for all that you do. I appreciate your personal stories the most. Binge listening to the show has been a real pleasure. I can relate to just about everything. God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving.
