love – a meditation

“Love is an untamed force. When we try to control it, it destroys us. When we try to imprison it, it enslaves us. When we try to understand it, it leaves us feeling lost and confused.”

-Paulo Coehlo, By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept

I am reminded that love is not meant to be used as a tool – not wielded as a weapon nor used a shield. Love simply is. When I am interacting with a loved one and I find myself angry with them or trying to make them change their behavior in some way, I realize that that does not come from a place of love. When I am able to fully able to accept them for who they are as they are, that is love. I accept that I do not know what is best for the other person – only for myself and seek that clarity through connection with my Higher Power.

A meditation for May 6, 2013.
