Opinions – a meditation

“They say you got to choose your side and when it's done nobody right, nobody wrong”

Michael Franti & Spearhead — Nobody Right Nobody Wrong

On a day-to-day basis, I have hundreds of opinions that regularly change as I receive new information. Interestingly, I realized, today, that I occasionally get offended when others' opinions don't line up with mine. In the past, I used to either get angry or reject my own opinion because I was afraid of being alone and isolated. Today, however, I try to remember that, for me, it is OK for me to have an opinion and it is OK for others to have a differing opinion. I believe that everyone's path is different. Moreover, it is perfectly acceptable for opinions to change. I am not my opinions and I will try not to see my value as a person as dependent upon the number of people that agree with me.

A meditation for January 16, 2013.
