Spencer and Amy — a couple in recovery — 294

Recently, my wife, Amy, and I were guests on the podcast Sober Speak. This is our sharing — what it was like, what happened, and what it is like now. We spoke both of our own experience and of our shared experience.

I hope that something we said connects with you.

Listening to this…So many thoughts running through my head as it relates to me and my family. I’m just shy of six months sober, and your story on this episode gives me hope for me and my family. Thanks.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Spencer, for this tender and healing podcast… Your words – that the woman you love was still in there – have become “pocket change” I cling to, as I am watching my loved one slowly die from the disease of alcoholism. Your words came exactly when I needed to hear them… they help me remember and hold on to my heart of compassion and the deep love I still feel for my loved one, even on the worst and most painful days when I can no longer see any vestiges of who she used to be on the outside. I fiercely miss her… and, leaning on the help of the God of my understanding, my sponsor, my Al-Anon family of friends, and the years of cherished memories, I will be able to walk this difficult walk. Blessings and much love to both you and Amy, Sally R – Northern California.
